Salman Khan: Let's use video to reinvent education via TED [video]
As an educator, this makes sense to me. In a perfect world, all students would have a computer at home with internet connection. Not only that, they would have parents that support this type of learning. Too often I see cases where there isn't a computer with internet at home, or even if they do, the student has parents that don't care about their child's education that they allow the child to play video games all day long instead of encouraging them to get educated.
That being said, if all my students had a computer with internet connection, and all my students had encouraging parents, I would see how this system would work. It's not only about connecting the home and school environment, but like he said, it's about humanizing the classroom. I see value in student to teacher time, and student to student time. The traditional oneway one-size-fits-all lecture does not work. More schools should consider incorporating such system that allows each student to learn at their own pace, and foster student-teacher time.
